By defending the ones who made the absurd allegations,

I offered no such defense.

Then you merely sought to cast some sort of opporobrium on those who pointed out the foolishness of the allegations, for some reason heretofore unsuspected.

The "association" here is that they were both at the same meetings.

Not exactly. More accurately, that they served on the same board. Also that Ayers hosted an Obama campaign event.

And this is worrisome for the same reason that the Republic trembled at McCain's appearances on the radio show of convicted burglar and co-conspirator (willing to commit murder and repeated advocate of same), G. Gordon Liddy, whose home was the site of a fundraiser for John McCain in 1998? Should we question McCain's judgment as well, and offer vocal opposition to anyone who says that's foolish?

Trying to whip that into a fervor of anti-terrorist fear

That is your characterization.

No, that's what Palin has done, to such an extent that the Secret Service noted an increase in death threats to Obama following her rallies.

is absurd but you keep trying to defend it without actually touching it.

Not true. You keep mischaracterizing what I am saying and defending. If you want to believe that some frenzied loonies in a crowd represent the mainstream of concern about Obama's associations, I can't stop you.

That is your characterization.

I keep giving you chances to set the record straight, but "no it wasn't" and "that's what you say" don't do much in that respect.

In fact, you don't even have to wait for me to give you a chance. You can say plainly why you go after people for suggesting that serving on the same board with somebody (and having them raise money for your campaign) is not a troubling reflection on his judgment.
