Hamelin has an enormous output. The chances that he'll be one of the top five performers of every piece he records in the standard repertoire aren't that good. You do him injustice. The quality of Hamelin's interpretations is uneven but there is almost always more to it than just great finger work and good taste.

Don't know about 'always' but certainly sometimes. His Alkan could disturb the 'blue-haired crowd', if they are paying attention. "Just who is Alkan smiling sardonically at?" they might think.
