I watched the first part (up through the first movement of the
symphony). I thought the audio was terrible. The loud parts were
terribly compressed (for example the loud chords in the overture).
Whoever controlled the gain should be fired. Also, the timpani
had a strange sound - not natural at all.

Something was wrong with the audioof the telecast I received. No
portion of the program was sufficiently loud as I had to crank up
the volume way above that I customarily use.

I noticed the same thing today (having to crank up the volume very
high) when watching parts of it again. That and the non-HD video,
were disappointing.

Should I just skip TiVoing it?

No. Just watch the Berlioz, Ibert and part of the Tchaikovsky 4th.

I think that's all I'd want to watch. And for this I TiVoed instead
two repeats of "The New Adventures of Old Christine." (Emily Rutherfurd
and Alex Kapp Horner are HOT!)

You like one of the "meanie moms" and "new Christine"? :)

I like that show too. I hope they improve the writing a little this
season and have a good run. It was a little uneven this season.

I felt it was *very* uneven this season, although I notice that the writers
dared to bring out the incest subtext enough so as to make it a credible
part of the characters' neuroses.

Of course, it also doesn't help that CBS has been doing its usual schtick
of bouncing a show around from timeslot to timeslot to timeslot until
they've shaken away the bulk of their audience, after which they can go
ahead and cancel it "because not enough people are watching." Bastards.

Now, a show that seems actually to have benefitted from the writers' strike
was "The Big Bang Theory," because the writers used their time away from
the show in order to sharpen and slightly rethink the characters, and make
them easier to identify with. Well, some of them anyway. I'm afraid I'm a
lot more like Wolowitz than I would like to be.

Note also that the show is, if you add in the recurring character of
"Leslie Winkle" (Sara Gilbert), the exact opposite of a certain top sitcom
from the past. "Friends" was about five hip young adults and one nerdy
scientist type ("Ross," played by David Schwimmer), while "Big Bang" is
about one hip young adult and five nerdy scientist types. I love it! The
new season begins next Monday, and of course I've already bought the DVD
set of the first season.
