Perfect, thanks!
Just curious, what are the sources (cat. nos.) of these?
Thanks again!
Neal
aYes, that's fine now. Thanks for the new link. Sorry if I sounded=
bit cranky, it's been one of those days!!
Paul
Funny, I was browsing to the list of european archive records, and
THIS record played in my room this morning...
Rolf
Ah, yes, that europarchive.org does have these. =A0 They mix up the
order of the 2 Slavonic Rhapsodies as well, and it looks like that
carried over to the upload here.
e=A0That site is a fun mess, but there's so much interesting material
from the early 50s there. =A0It takes quite a bit of work to make
something of these files, the level is so low, no declicking, pitches
off, and then the engineers are apparently instructed to fall asleep
so the files often run for 5 minutes of lead out groove time!
Sometimes a record skips for a minute or so too! =A0BUT.....I like th=
echoice of file format, and the cover art, when it's there, and ....th=
price is right! =A0BTW, the files seem available at archive.org as
well....it's a bit hard to search for them, but if you enter
"archive.org/details/lp-xxxxx_BeG" x being the lp number plugged in
from the url at europearchive.org, the files download faster, and you
can do multiple downloads at the same time.
Meanwhile, here's one of Fritz Lehmann's hit singles available on
eBay!!

It's my job to clean up the "mess" over there... It's planned now for
September.
Problem was, that there ARE cleaned, cutted and normalised files, but
they did not
correspond with the xml files. All track descriptions of Beeld en
Geluid
(who provided the material), were delivered in such a way, that only
the first track of every lp was picked out
by the system... And the company who transferred the lp's had some
problems in cutting
classical music. So there is a lot of work to do. For the time being
the complete raw files are there.
The choice was made rather to have those on-line, then only first
tracks...
What worries me a little is your remark that pitches are off. Can you
give an example?
But, it will be a nice thing to do, and already several other
organisations have offered their
collection.
Greetings,
Rolf
Oh, I didn't realize that! =A0I'm sure you're the man for the job, and I
look forward to seeing what you do with it all! =A0No offense for my
remarks, I hope!
I agree it's better to have things up there now in some form. =A0I don't
mind the =A0lp side to a file thing, but it's odd with all the extra
space at the ends sometimes. =A0I wish I had kept better record of the
pitch issues. =A0Nothing is very far off, and I'm sure it's from
mistakes made in the original mastering. =A0The Lehmann Dvorak Legends
record was almost a half step off, but now I don't remember which
direction it was. =A0I'd be glad to pass along my observations if I
catch more things. =A0Generally when I've had to adjust it's been about
1% lower than posted. =A0 Maybe you know about these things: but the
Grieg Cello Sonata with Garbousova/Balsam is the same (1st) side of
the record in both files (flac), The Vegh Qrt Brahms 1st qrt. is
missing the ends of both sides (but there's lots of blank space), and
the first of their Mozart Qrt. records (K. 464 and can't remember the
other) skips near beginning a few times.
I am amazed at what is there......every page I browse through is
filled with something that interests me, and much of it can be made to
sound very good with a little work (it sounds like you've already got
versions that you've improved ready to go). =A0So, best of luck, and let
me know if there's anything I can help with!
Best,
Neal
And there are some 3200 other lp's already transferred...
But it will take a while before those are on-line.
First we need to create a proper structure to handle the files.
If that is there, we can provide a much better service...
Only if McGreevy gets his bill passed, everything was
for nothing......
Rolf
A back-door entry for U.S. Internet users would also be nice.
Brendan
The site works for me fine in Tex-ass.....are we supposed to be
blocked? in any case archive.org has the files, but searching seems
to be a difficult thing. Here's an example:
http://www.archive.org/details/lp-00973_BeG
but none of the links go anywhere and searching? Good luck.
Can you see this page, Brendan?
http://www.europarchive.org/collection.php?id=public_classical_music_BeG
Rolf, what's this McGreevy business?
Neal
