With the supposed demise of the traditional CD store and the decline
of CD sales, I’m curious how people in this group buy new music. What
% do you download? Buy online? Still try to find @ Borders (good
luck)?

Online purchase of CDs: 98%
Dowload: 1%
B&M: 1% -- all at thrift stores

B&M stores of all types are becoming totally irrelevant. I've even taken to
buying drug store items from Amazon because the B&M stores don't carry what
I want.

I do the majority of buying (say 50 percent) using Amazon's Z-shops.
This mainly is for the generally much lower price (sometimes
incredible bargains, such as the Sokolov set of Schubert, Chopin,
Beethoven and Scriabin/Rachmaninov for less than $13) and because I'm
often looking for OOP discs. If Borders has it, I'll buy it there if I
can use a coupon that makes the price comparable to what I'll find
online (about 20-30 percent). Another 10-20 percent is from other
brick-and-mortar stores--mostly used, but sometimes a new item at a
local store I frequent with a decent classical selection and a buyer
who listens to his customers. The rest is downloaded, which I'll
resort to if a high-quality download is available for recordings I
can't find elsewhere, is what I consider less mandatory recordings by
favorite performers (Fey's Mendelssohn recordings, Mustonen's
Beethoven PC set) or is something of an impulse buy (the Schornsheim
Haydn set being a recent example--I have plenty of Haydn keyboard
recordings and generally don't care for some of the instruments used
here, but what the hell).
