The CBC is worth having for items like the Strauss-Godowsky Standchen,
the "Etude Macabre" the 2 Java selections, but the Hyperion has the
big Sonata which is a flawed but fascinating piece. I wouldn't want
to be without either.
The CBC also has the wonderful Prelude and Fugue for Left Hand Alone,
which always blows me away.
Yes, and I'm particularly interested in left-hand-only music, due to that
tendon problem in my right hand which afflicted me about thirty years ago
after my too-assiduous practicing of the Liszt Sonata. The two best LH solo
recitals I know are by Leon Fleisher on Sony, and Michel Béroff on EMI.
Waltz Paraphrases by Hamelin is that finally we'll get a good
performance of the Gypsy Baron. Leon Fleisher's on Sony is such a
serious poker faced interpretation - so literal and stodgy.
Completely miscast in this music.
