I'd reply with a substantive comment, except to didn't
address anything I had been discussing.

Well, excuse me, but I thought you were implicitly
asking whether the "rest of the world" might be
doing better than Bush's USA in combatting "terrorism",
or more particularly Islamic terrorism associated with a
particular notorious terrorist group that is NOT
affiliated with Iran and was not affiliated with
Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

And I was attempting to suggest that doing nothing
other than shoring up defenses would have been
better than going ballistic in response to a fluke attack
that succeeded in a spectactular manner.

What we face now is not dissimilar to what the
Russians went through in withdrawing from
Afghanistan. And the GOP recognizes that;
they just want to prolong the ordeal and blame
the Democrats when it is finished.

Then they will try to continue that for a quarter
of a century the way they did it with Vietnam.

I think that the characterization of Republicans and Democrats above
is too broard. The excursion into Iraq was something pushed by
people who signed the PNAC letter to then President Clinton . If
Republicans like Brent Skowcroft, Larry Eagleburger and James Baker
were in charge, we wouldn't have gone in. And are you so young that
you don't remember that the Vietnam War was started by Kennedy and
Johnson, Democrats?
