The Hurwitz in question is Bernard. You may know him better by his nom

Haggin's real last name was Hurwitz? I'd never heard that.

The today he refers to is 1956. I will add that on equipment of today,
it sounds even better than 1956.

Yes, here the 78s sound clean, although I still find the 8-H sound
not to my taste.

That B.H. Haggin was Jewish comes as a mild surprise to me, but then why
not?  Perhaps his most famous book could be called "Music for the Man Who
Doesn't Eat a Ham Omelet."  ;--)

That's good, Matthew!

Haggin/Hurwitz was evidently as provocative in person as in print. I
knew Ellen Lebow, a member of the New York City record collector elite
because of her late husband Bernard Lebow, his important collection of
scarce vocal 78s, and Ellen's work in producing the Club 99 LP
reissues of the above. I remember Ellen telling me about a time that
Haggin came to their home. She said he was "being naughty -- making
nasty remarks about everybody." "So I said: now STOP IT, BEN!! He
laughed and stopped it."
