I have seen him now a couple of times in concert, with the LAP and

faults are generally due to inexperience and perhaps over-enthusiasm
sometimes, but I agree that Haydn, Mozart and (more) Beethoven will be
the acid test. I hope he finds the courage not to overcomit and to
only listen to wise counsel. He is a great talent.
I see that as a pretty big risk for him -- rising to such prominence
that he's judged as if he's 25 year conducting veteran. I could be
totally wrong, but I think a lot of these young artists would probably
be better off working in obscurity until they're nearly 30 so that
they can develop their interpretations and expand their repertoire.
Levine, for example, worked under Szell up until his death in '70, and
then didn't win major appointments until he was 30 years old. Only a
few years younger than Dudamel, but he was still essentially a student
at Dudamel's current age.
