I don't think using Real Alternative would improve the low-quality
stream from BBC Radio 3, which is often made worse by network
issues, etc.

I know, but I mentioned this in context of the fact that RealPlayer is a very awkward program to use.

Or more to the point, RealPlayer is practically spyware, and I for one would never install it on my system.
