There isn't any consensus. Some of the recordings seem more successful
than others, even though the level of quality is relatively
consistent.

Of course it's a clichée to say that no cycle has all the answers, but I do
think Rattle rates amongst the best ones, with, IMO, no complete failures at
all.
2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 are all top flight, 7 and 9 are at least very
interesting, if not a bit ideosyncratic, and 1 and 6 are solid, above
average renditions. I already owned 2, 8 original and most of the others as
downloads from Usenet, but at this price the set was irresistable even for
me.
Other cycles (Bernstein, Bertini, Chailly, Haitink, Inbal, Kubelik) are very
good as well, but I feel Rattle deserves at least as much recommendation as
each one of these.
