Here's a transfer of Bernard Greenhouse performing the Haydn Cello Concerto in D
with Izler Solomon leading the "MGM Orchestra." This comes from a monaural MGM
LP (GC-30008). There's no cover art, just the liner notes printed on the front
of the sleeve (is this how MGM originally issued the LP?). The sleeve says
nothing about RIAA equalization. I mention that because the recording is
extremely bass-shy and trebly. I did not re-equalize it, but I do recommend a
substantial bass boost and treble cut for playback. It's interesting to hear
Greenhouse as a soloist. Accustomed as I am to his generally understated
contributions to the Beaux Arts Quartet's classic piano trio recordings, I was
surprised at (and pleased by) his assertiveness here.

Coming soon: continuing my Haydn kick (what an inexhaustibly great composer he
is!), the Budapest Quartet's 1947 Columbia recordings of the Lark and Sunrise
quartets.
many thanks for this....... he plays very well.....
