And they all look alike.
I found it hard to tell them apart.
This is getting really weird. They don't all look alike.
They look pretty much alike to me:

This of course is absolutely false, but even if not , why is that so
important?
About 2/3/rds of the main gang characters are FAT., many like Vito and
Bobby B, VERY fat. THE starring character himself is a large
overweight man, though not as fat as the others. And this is very
obviously intentional by the creator because it is a story about
"Italian" mobsters (mafioso if you like), and in lore, actuality and
local custom (David Chase was born and raised in West New Jersey),
Italians love to eat, and the various fats-carbohydrates pasta foods
they regularly consume are not exactly conducive to a slim figure.
One of the main characters on the show is - - eating! There is not
ONE episode that does not involve Tony in some form of eating - either
a sit-down dinner at home or at a restaurant, or one of his endless
large 'snacks' pulled from the refrigerator or microwave oven. I've
never seen him descend from his upstairs bedroom (a fairly regular
camera shot) without going straight to the kitchen and opening the
refrigerator. In fact, one of his several Panic Attacks ( which spawn
a principal feature of the show: the therapy sessions with
psychiatrist Dr. Meli) occurred after taking out some 'deli-wrapped'
prosciutto from the refrigerator. Though all eating seems to revolve
around him, the activity is not confined to him For me and the other
millions of fans, herein lies one of the principal **humor** aspects
of the show. Precisely because it is NEVER done to this degree and
with this much reality in any other TV show (or movie). Not saying
that it required much imagination [:-) ] , but James Gandolfini did
it with a passionate realism that I have never seen before.
Another great humor aspect was the creative script writing, and the
many, many malapropisms uttered by Tony, Chris, and a few other main
characters. Stuff like:
1) Paulie : "Its like an add for a wait loss centre, before and way
the *** before"
2) Carmella: They're going to New York. He's taking her (Meadow) to
Aida."
Tony (very concerned): "I eat her?"
3) Paulie- "You're late!"
Ralphie- "Tommorow I can be on time, but you'll be stupld forever"
4) Bobby- "Mom started going downhill after the World Trade Center."
You know Quasimodo predicted all this."
Tony- "Who did what?"
Bobby- "All these problems. The Middle East, the end of the world."
Tony- "Nostradamus. Quasimodo's the Hunchback of Notre Dame."
Bobby- "Oh right. Notre Damus."
Tony- "Nostradamus, and Notre Dame. Two different things completely."
Bobby- "It's interesting though, they'd be so similar, isn't it?" And
I always thought okay, Hunchback of Notre Dame. You also got your
quarterback and halfback of Notre Dame."
Tony- "One's a fucking cathedral."
Bobby- "Obviously. I know, I'm just saying. It's interesting, the
coincidence. What your gonna tell me you never pondered that? The back
thing with Notre Dame?"
5) (Tony, while making a bee-line for the refrigerator one morning,
with the obvious pleasure of anticipation on his face suddenly turn to
LOUD outspoken DIS-pleasure: "Who ate the last piece of cake."??
And I think the series glorified violence.
How on earth did it do that? I'm beginning to wonder whether you've
actually
watched any of it.
So am I.
Maybe I need to llighten up.
Try renting the 1st. Seaons DVDs, and watch (all 13 episodes) with an
open (and 'continuous' for content) mind.
Could make a highely entertaining difference. :-)
