If you could find them and if your friend didn't suffer from the
crippling disease of audiophilia, I'd recommend Francescatti and
Casadesus or Suk and Panenka. (Nobody but me seems to like Robert
Mann and Stephen Hough, so I would have to listen again before
plugging them.)
IMO a musician who spends 2 million dollars for a fiddle offereing a
particular sound suffers from "audiophilia" far more than any typical
audiophile. Where is anyone to find a copy of the Suk/Panenka? (If you
see
one available, put me down for it.)
See my post elsewhere in the thread. (Amazon and Musicabona.)
In the past I had a huge problem with someone at Musicabona and would rather
go without than buy from them. I saw Suk/Panenka at Amazon, bought it
(Caiman!), but don't know what to expect. The picture clearly shows the
Supraphon release:
http://www.amazon.com/Beethoven-Violin-Sonatas-Josef-Suk/dp/B0007VLVWI/ref=sr_1_3/105-0285223-4810059?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1180628560&sr=1-3,
but the description indicates Sony. Is this a mistake or some type of
re-mastering?
SE.
