The all-Wagner / Paul Paray / Detroit 'Mercury' CD (434 383-2)
features a purely orchestral version of 'Wotan's Farewell and Magic
Fire Music' in which the vocal lines are transferred to assorted
instruments. Nowhere is it stated who made the arrangement, so does
anyone know? Maybe Paray himself made this version, or maybe he used
Wouter Hutschenruyter's edition. In any event, 'Mercury' should have
said whose in their notes. It's surprising just how many orchestral
'bleeding chunks' of Wagner have appeared on record with no indication
as to whose editions are being used, since many of them were not made
by Wagner at all, but were edited down from the operas and published
for concert use by others, such as Humperdinck and Zumpe and the
aforementioned Hutschenruyter.
