ENCORE DVD-R at BRO -- any good?

Has anyone here tried any of the ENCORE DVD-R releases sold at Bershire
with the notice "PLEASE NOTE: Limited-pressing DVD-R. Embedded English
subtitles" (where English may be replaced by Italian, Dutch, German,
etc. in the quoted text). Most of the items seem to be videos of
(live?) opera performances but there are also a few non-operatic items
on the label.

A few of the items look like they might be worth trying if the quality
is any good, but that's the big "if". I'd welcome any advice or
comments on your experiences with these products. I don't recall ever
seeing any of them reviewed in Fanfare, ARG, Gramophone, etc. or any of
the on-line review sites.

The use of DVD-R instead of DVD and the mention of limited pressing
conjures up visions of someone cranking out homemade DVD-Rs from videos
made with a VCR smuggled into the opera house. But perhaps my concerns
are unfounded.

Thanks,
