As to who it is, I won't guess - it could even be a team effort - but

It's funny how the "faux-newbies" (I like that) have, as prime
interest, deciding exactly how the group will be, what replies
belong where, who should stay and who should go, etc. And
they have a talent for nursing old complaints from years ago too.

Andrys,

You are easily and perversly amused:-).

If you are referring to me as a F-N T, I would say there is no need. I
have freely admitted to not being new here, so there is nothing faux
about it (faux: Artificial; fake: faux pearls.). You as well as Mr.
Deacon have every right to post whatever you please.

I have a right to post whatever I please? You are a very
generous would-be Controller

However, in an
unmoderated forum such as this others have the right to object and
answer "speech" and behaviour that they might find objectionable.

Of course. Some of us have done it for years under our
own names, and people here even know where we are, because
we've nothing to hide. We came here to talk about music,
not to start a movement to correct the entire group's handling
of off-topic conversation or to point to just one individual
as the problem. It seems to be your enetire focus.

You
yourself have behaved this way on many occasions - should I dredge up
the thread where you and Mr. Berger went on and on and on this past
week?

You can dredge it up all you like. It was not at all, however,
like your starting a new topic to isolate ANY off-topic talk
to a place where you yourself are comfortable with it.

So now ask yourself, how many times has Mr. Deacon been removed from
moderated groups? And then ask yourself why that happened.

That seems to be the focus for you. Your history with him.

I don't know of any moderated groups from which he was removed.

The Pianophiles one, which is definitely very controlling of
acceptable style of posting (I am on eternal moderated and
pre-screened mode there) have forbidden him from posting at
all, and he was told to just read and learn. In other words,
it's run the way you want to run this one. But he wasn't removed
from it. He has exited other moderated groups on his own.

I have
been a member of many moderated groups and I have not been dismissed
from any of them.

A blue ribbon for you then. So, everyone here has to be like you?
The rest of us even qualify for the ribbon, but we wouldn't come here
to brag about it or find any reason to bring it up the way you do.

As for net detectiving, the latest Controller seems to hail
from the area of Mission Viejo / Irvine in southern California.

Andrys,

As in the past you seem to have an overriding interest in finding out
who persons are that post on this group. So which agency do you work
for: the NSA, the CIA or the FBI? I respect your privacy and do not
attempt to invade it.

Most of us here, except for the recurring troublemakers, post
under our own names. We're prey to hostilities from people like you
(for our views or off-topic behavior when that happens) while you
hide under another name and hope that people don't know how to read
very Public Internet headers.

I must clue you into a reality, in case you didn't know it.
Your posting host is given a number. It's the server from
which your postings are made. It's identified for the protection
of the entire posting community. Your server has your
local area identified in it, and it's by location because
people are not expected to want to hide something like that
or to post entirely anonymously (though you can go ahead and
use anonymous remailer outfits in other countries instead
in the future if you want to keep hiding where you're from).

What possible crime have I committed such that
you seek in a most totalitarian way to invade my privacy?

You are incredibly dramatic. What are you hiding that
you don't want your ISP to identify its own server to the
world in its everyday mode? WHY are you hiding, when
coming here, not to talk about music, but to try to control
the group and tell us why someone else should be Controlled.

Your privacy is in no way 'invaded' unless you are just
worried that people might guess who you really are just by
the location from which you post.

Why your behaviour in this respect marches in lock step
with those politicians I have often heard you decry.

News for you then. Newsgroup hosting has guidelines.

In order to enforce those guidelines they have all kinds
of public notations in the header (which we merely 'expand'
when we want its wordy posting identification numbers
displayed) so that if someone is targeting another member
or in some way stalking them to try to get a group to decry
them (already done by group members, but you want more),
then your actual identity can be determined by the ISP by
additional message#-identifiers at your ISP in case someone
complains about you the way you complain about others.

The location identifier is very public, and your local
server identifies itself for a reason. They don't expect
someone to be trying to keep hidden the writer's posting
location the way you apparently do.

Most of us are fine with expressing our own opinions
about music and even about other topics under our own names
and don't worry about someone discovering what region of
the US we're in. But if you continue to worry about that,
try one of the services for people who don't want to be
known for what they're posting on the newsgroups.
