Re: Mark Swartzentruber: a pianist for the 21st Century......sounds good

I put this name in the box on the right hand side, looking for some
discussion of his work, and nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Mark Swartzentruber, an American living in the UK, put out a disc on
Sony back in the 1990s. Somehow I picked that up. Must have been
curious; I usually am.

Then I googled his name and found that he has set up his own recording
company: Solo Records.

And there are FIVE CDs I was unaware of: Beethoven, Op. 57, 79, 111;
Scarlatti (18 sonatas); Schumann Kreisleriana and Etudes symphoniques;
Haydn (Sonatas Nos. 41, 44, 53, 54, 62); and Debussy (Images Bk. I,
Estampes, Pour le piano, L'Isle joyeuse, and Ballade). To those can be
added his original CD released on Sony of piano sonatas by Schubert.

An enterprising young man, it has to be said.

This would seem to be a sign of things to come, artists making their
own recordings, establishing a label, and releasing their work via the
Internet. My copies came via Crotchet. Perhaps they are available
elsewhere; just don't know. What is clear is that JH was not the only
one to have recourse to this distribution method.

Some would suggest that downloads would be nice. Frankly I don't like
the sound of Mp3; too compressed for my tastes. But I recognize that
this would be an additional method of making one's music known.

No comments so far on the pianism. That will come in due course.

heard some clips.

anyway, 21st Century Mark S. sounds like a damn good, musical
pianist...... his Schubert and Scarlatti were particularly impressive.

Nice to see that you're still agreeing with me, Arri.

There may be hope for you after all.
