"By the way, can we have a definition of 'plain English'?"
When I post on this newsgroup and somebody asks me what meter is, I
make an attempt to explain what it is using as clear and simple terms
as possible. I may well fail, but it's not for lack of trying. And I
don't fail because I've dragged down seventeen poorly written advanced
treatises on rhythm and quoted vast chunks from them using an arcane
vocabulary in lieu of answering the question.
This is not an advanced forum for Adorno studies. For whatever reason,
the contributors here are mainly American. Not one of us here uses
anything like the sort of vocabulary you use. If your vocabulary
differed from ours simply because you were raised in Britain, that
would still be a fact you were obliged to acknowledge. You're
completely deaf to the character of your audience, and you don't make
the slightest effort to meet it on its own terms. There is precisely
one person on this newsgroup (and it ain't me) who has read all of your
posts in this thread and attempted to discuss them with you. In part,
because it's good sport for him, in part to help you. You just don't
get it.
For an example of what is colloquially referred to as "plain English,"
pick virtually any post posted here at random so long as it's not
written by you. Even those my such non-native speakers as Samir.
