There is a very good reason for storing music in lossless format: you
are guranteed that you will have to rip your CDs once and once only.
If you store your music in, say MP3 and then a new format comes along
that is generally agreed to be superior, you will have to rerip your
music into the new format.

I store my music on my home computer in FLAC (lossless) format and
copy a fresh selection to my digital audio player every night. It can
easily store more than enough music for one day, which is all I need.
