It's very difficult to protect a large collection from fire unless you
keep it in a huge fire proof strong room . Insurance (for replacement
value) is the best bet but I've found it necessary to list every single
LP/CD/DVD etc with the insurance company BEFORE even thinking of making
a claim. So, every month my insurance company gets an update CD-R of my
Excel spred***.
When I first told them I had something like 11,300 LP's they insisted
on being presented with a photograph of the collection ( on the
shelves; not each LP thank God!). I suspect they thought I was mad - no
one in their right mind would keep so many of those silly old things.
Strangely they have never asked for a shot of the CD's, Cassettes (yes
I still listen to them) DVD's etc.

.. and how big is my collection now? Big enough to keep me satisfied.
