How about adding a public video diary to the project? Close-ups of the
right hand in action. Might be an eye-opener for you. And I bet you'd
get some valuable feedback.
I'm thinking about it. But I have no video camera, and I'd have to
learn how to edit and post a video. So I'd have to buy something, and
I'd have to learn something. Since I'm cheap and lazy, these things
won't happen overnight.

I'm going to be a naysayer here, Tom: it's not going to happen. You
remind me so much of myself. The tense right shoulder, the 'm'
finger, etc. Your only chance is to quit playing and practice 'im'
crossing slowly and quietly. Bursts are the worst thing you can do
because they utilize the extensor muscles and are not meant for
continuous altermation.I suspect that you are beating your problem in
to your hand and making things worse. If you could double the
continous speed of the playing with one finger, you'd be fast enough
to play just about anything. Your only chance is to quit playing and
practice 'im' crossing slowly and quietly for maybe three sets of ten
minutes per day for as long as it takes. Make sure that each stroke
returns naturally and that when 'i' plays, 'm' doesn't do a mall
jerking extension. In the meantime take up the flute or voice or
something that will allow you to grow musically. If you take my
advice, I guarantee you will be thanking me in five years. Perhaps you
don't remember the audio recordings I posted of im free stroke burst
at around 180? I'll never pick up the guitar again, that's for sure.
I know I am a one trick pony with this question: Why the quest for
righthand stream of single notes speed? I think the best focus for
the RH is to have 'a' as strong and agile and 'i' & 'm' and get the
same tone/sound from combinations of i&m, m&a, i&a, ima. For myself I
include 'a' in all arpeggios and now practice i, m, a on single
strings. Miguel and other flamenco players need burst of speed but
any CG piece that demands fast burst passages is forever beyond my
capabilities.
Back to the CG short bus.
Ed
You will find if you play long enough that your "best focus" will
change many times. Regards, daveA
