Very interesting blog Tom. I might suggest you think out of the box a
bit and incorporate you "a" finger in your longer scale runs (HVL
etude 7) and refinger your scales as needed. Philip Hii wrote an
excellent essay on this about 12 years ago. It isn't online anymore,
but I have it if you want it. If you are twisting at all to the left
when you sit, this could be causing your right shoulder pain and would
effect your RH speed. See the seating position in Escuela de la
