Thanks!
Roughly, the sun is 400 times bigger than the moon, and it's 400 times
further from the earth than the distance from earthto the moon.
Cheers,
John
Or this John,
The distance from the Earth to the Sun is 108 times the diameter of
the Sun.
The distance from the Earth to the Moon is 108 times the diameter of
the Moon.
Or, you can fit 108 moons between the Earth and the Moon – you can fit
108 Suns between the Earth
and the Sun.
The relationship between scale and distance is why each appear to be
the same size from our vantage
point on Earth. The accelerated growth of Life on Earth, into
sentient, intelligent beings started as the Moon reached
this critical equi-distance with the Sun.
A string of mala beads, prayer beads. They're used in both Indian and
Buddhist traditions.
Each string has 108 beads. You can imagine each one of these beads
being a Moon or Sun. In Eastern thinking the Sun and Moon are co-
creative forces of life. The masculine/feminine are but a
representation of the sun and the moon.
It's interesting you mentioned prayer beads. My wife bought a prayer
bead string for my mom-in-law on a recent trip to China. She used it
once in her daily praying session and told my wife the bead string was
too short - her fingers finished the string before the praying was
completed. The string my wife bought only had 100 beads instead of 108
beads like here other good bead strings. Go figure!
Cheers,
John
