Re: Truss rod on classical guitars

I am basically a jazz player and enjoy playing a classical guitar
sometimes. I have a cheap Takamine (EG 124C) which is actually quite
nice to play, but I'm interested in a better quality, sounding guitar.
One of the things that I love about my Tak is that it has a truss rod.
Obviously I prefer as low an action as I can get. I have tried to play
some fairly expensive classicals with very high, and for me at least
unplayable, action (please don't tell me to take lessons and learn to
play "properly" I'm a bit too long in the tooth for that).

You have to learn to compensate for string height as you ascend the neck
no matter what guitar you have. Bridge height is an adjustment. A
truss rod gives a correction, *not* an adjustment.

The Legnani [sound rod?] from the neck to the end block would be
interesting combined with a truss rod. A single rod could be used by
having threads engaged at the heel block as well as at both ends. I
would think that that design would result in even more increase in sound
volume than the shorter "sound rod" alone by making the transfer of
sound energy more efficient. The change in tension at the center would
cause some losses, but much less than the losses from not having that
design in the first place. What do you think Tashi? MO?
Just a thought.

("Sound rod" is analogous to the violin's sound post, which transfers
sound energy from the back to the top, because the top is lighter to
make it more free to vibrate.)

The tone problem is not the guitars, it is you. Own it. Regards,
