These stemmed from coruption and greeds, and politicians from both
sides are guilty.
Right, as I said.
Most of the good jobs went to India, not China.
The people whose factory jobs got sent to China might disagree. I
wouldn't want to do it, but they did. So, would you reassess your
statement?
These are the high-
paying jobs in the software sectors, research & development areas.
Why? Because India has a better education system to develop mass high-
tech expertise.
Indians (high-status ones) are wonderfully educated and disciplined.
But the jobs moved because of labor cost, not because of their
expertise.
Our education system needs help.
I agree with you, John! Public education is a moral mission of
government. One reason it's such a terrible idea to put it in the
hands of profit-oriented corporations.
I would not blame
India and China alone for creating poluttion.
Me neither! Americans pollute at a far higher rate. My point is that
the growth has a cost for Chinese and Indians, and that is pollution.
It has a cost for the world at large, too, but that was not my point
with that statement.
Blaming on the expansion of free> market will not solve it.
Probably nothing will solve it, but neocolonial, neoliberal "free
market" policies are indeed to blame.
The insatisable demand in consumption probably got American in this
knot more than anything else.
Our economy is based on wasteful consumerism. We get SUVs and
gadgets, and our children will pay the bill, both in the sense of
actual $ and the degradation of the land. It doesn't have to be this
way. Once we suck up every bit of oil and coal, it won't be.
I would not like to be subjected to higher tax to
support any type of wealth distribution system - It's just a cover to
shift money from businees leaders to government officials, period.
John, corporations govern us. They make the decisions that rule our
lives. The difference between them is they have no accountability,
cannot be voted out of office, and have no moral mission. In fact,
they are "too big to fail" and have access to the highest level of
government.
It's totally different
from dealing with peace-loving Vietnamese who can shake it off the
dark past and move on in friendly terms :-)
I admire you folks for that. I patronize my local Vietnamese
restaurant for Pho once a week! :)
I think what we need to do over there is to isolate the extermists,
and at the same time to cooperate with friendly countries to improve
people's education and living standards.
Me too. The Republicans don't do that. "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran"
Do you think you can make peace with
them?
This is the same fear-mongering that led us to attack Vietnam. It
wasn't valid then, and it isn't now.
Obama has run a very smart campaign, I
sure hope he will be as smart in the Whiltehouse to address these
issues properly and effectively - not dismssing them as unfounded
fears as some may suggested.
Agreed. It's better than hoping that McCain would. Thanks for the
discussion.
