Do you spend all that running time doing some great thinking...
or it just something, "Ok, now how far to go?"
Running benefits both mind and body. It relieves stress,
provides perspective, and improves circulation in the
brain and other organs as well as in muscles.
Yes, many runners think great thoughts while running, but
running also improves your thinking even when you're not
running.
Bicycling, Nordic skiing, swimming, and other aerobic
sports and activities have similar benefits.

My longest run -- ever was 8 miles. I really enjoyed that and biking. All
that came to an end when I took up the serious study of a stringed
instrument.

That is a problem with running - hard to play CG at the same time.
Load up an MP3 player with guitar music and go out for a little jog in
the country. Watching the scenery go by to 'Valse Poeticos' is a
particulary pleasant experience. Takes the drudgery right out of it.
