My daughter said she needed a coffee grinder, so I bought her
one. I then
asked if she was now "set" for her college coffee making. She
told me, no,
she wants to get a French Press. So I started looking into these
things...I've been a Mr. Coffee type forever...and I started
getting intrigued. Tonight I bought a Bodum French Press and make
some Moka Java
(Med roast blend of Sumatra and Ethiopian beans) and am enjoying
it about as
much or more as I thought that I would. I hope I'm not up all
night, but
if I am I'll be playing guitar.
I did a search and found there was a coffee thread about 1 1/2
yrs, ago.
The French Press was mentioned often...glad I finally got around
to getting
one of these! I guess a good burr grinder is next....

John,
You may want to try vietnamese coffee with the french press. The
name is "Trung Nguyen" ground coffee, very good, I think you can
pick it up from any vietnamese grosserie store. I take it black,
but it goes wery well with condensed milk if you like it sweet.
Cheers,
John
P.S. I'm not surprised a bit if you stay up all night. That thing
packs a good punch of caffeine. It may induce uncontrolled vibrato
to your guitar playing, though :-)
Something that goes well with Trung Nguyen is cream cheese cut in 3/4
inch squares with an equal amount of guava or orange paste on top. It
seems to really finish a shellfish dinner! Btw, oysters are
absolutely great this year on the Texas coast. The water temperature
has the oysters putting out glycogen, and they are briny and sweet
out of Galveston, Matagorda and Lavaca Bay.

STOP IT!
Yer makin me hungry..and thirsty!
I had never even heard of a French Press until, of all places, I went
to China
for the first time. The hotel room in Shanghai had a press as part of
the minibar service.
I tried it in the morning and have been hooked ever since. Still
searching for the perfect coffee beans but am quite happy with the
searching.
