I tried it tonight with two people, both great musicians, friends of
mine. No background other than it was a piece I'm learning and there
are two editions, one with an A, one with a G, and I said I wasn't
sure which sounded better, and since it was published in editions with
both, I wasn't sure which was a better choice. They were not
listening at the same time so they didn't influence each other. I
played it both ways twice, alternating. With one person I played the
A first, with the other the G first.

Both felt strongly that the G sounded better, they both said the A
didn't work well.

hmmm.... I'm convinced that you purposely flubbed the A every time.
You buzzed it, bent it, made a sour face when you played it or induced
a very brief epileptic seizure, spat on it, or some other such
mischief. Tell me it isn't true.
