Compare and contrast, note strengths and weaknesses, make suggestions
- all to the end of helping us discover (discover, not judge) which is
best (best, not simply different). (This is obviously, in part, going
to be an exercise in rejecting the dictatorship of relativism). Have
fun!

P.S.

To any honest listener, there are clearly superior and inferior
performances here (n.b. by saying so, we're not calling their
performers superior or inferior, but their performances). Please
resist the urge to insult those giving superior performances by saying
that these performances are merely "different." In other words, resist
the democratic compulsion to level. Also, we're not concerned here
with mere entitlement to opinion, but with the deeper issue of right
opinion.

For example:

"In my opinion, the classical guitar isn't difficult to master."

Though we grant that one is entitled to hold this opinion, this
opinion is wrong. "But it's right, it's true, FOR ME." The speaker is
then exposed as a liar in addition to an ignoramus. We do wrong to
this speaker if we don't try to lead him out of the cave, if we only
say to him, "Well, you're entitled to your opinion."

"In my opinion, the classical guitar requires long and arduous
dedication to master."

This is right opinion (indeed, this rises from the level of mere
opinion to knowledge, but this is another subject).

One of the most important criteria of best:

-Fidelity to Barrios' intent, as far as this intent is discernible.

Many other criteria could be provided, but I'll let you do so - as I
now grow fatigued.

La Catedral, you need to include Shin Ichi Fukuda's performance of
years back in the list of choiceshttp://youtube.com/watch?v=LeyfG5TWpfY

I saw it but I only wanted to include the last movement. His
performance is the whole thing.

P.S. It looks like Paul is going to flake on us vis the videos. I've
received nothing. You?

Hey Jackson,
I'll give Paul some more time. May be an issue of Mpeg compression and
memory limit for email. In any case, as a backup, we should expect to
get copies( CD?) during Michael's recital. Did you get Paul's email?
Maybe we can ask him about the status.
Olegario
