My case is probably fairly typical - the period of approximately '64 to '70 was a hell of a wild ride for pop music where the sounds/styles produced were varied and constantly changing. The only thing one could rely on was that the guitar would firmly be in the center of the mix. I was one of those guy swept along with many others to play that darned thing in that first (or was it second?)wave of the guitar craze.
Me too.
Myintro to the classical guitar was with F. Noad.
Me too (the book, not the TV show, which AFAIK was never available in New York.
Again, this was probablytypical. Over the years, I've stayed at the shallow end of the pool but as I now play to relax (I'm not even sure that I'm making music), it may be that an inflatable kiddie's wading thingie would be a better depth gauge. :-)

Sure--me too (Bach and a few others transcribed being conspicuous exceptions). But I have naturally let the guitar dictate too much what I listen to as well--a habit I am trying to remedy.
Better late than never.

It seems unlikely that our dinky educational TV station would have programming not available in that biggest of apples where you reside but it's also unlikely that kids across the US would be sitting in front of the TV playing music presented on the screen - this was early interactive programming. :-)
Many teachers might have thought he was presenting material at too rapid a rate but I think he had the right idea - go for it! Mr Noad had a temperament and patience akin to Mr. Rodgers but this was a show that 12 year-olds as well as adult beginners could watch without feeling they were being talked down to. God bless you Mr. Noad!
He did have another show about 10 years later but by then I did not have to take out my guitar and play along. :-)
