What you are talking about is rational or logical action.
Severe psychosis, mental illness or breakdown, frequently, by
definition, involves the loss of any ability for rational or logical
judgement or action. If you break your leg you can take rational and
logical action to summon help, get treatment, and participate in your
own recovery. That's because your brain is working normally. If it's
your brain which is severely broken, then you don't have quite the
same abilities and options for understanding your situation and
helping yourself. Add to that easy and immediate access to guns, and
the result can be tragic.

Agreed. I just didn't want the old 'rid the world of guns and we will
be safer' argument to get going...- Hide quoted text -

Oh let's do get into it. Handguns are good for one thing and one
thing only - shooting people. I know, somebody once saved their life
shooting a grizzly bear with a 357 Magnum, but that was a long time
ago.
Only 154 shootings a year are justifiable self defense with a hand
gun, out of 300 million Americans, and that includes police.
The argument about an armed militia is bogus. Back during the
beginning of our country the citizens and the military had very
similar armaments except for cannon. Now our military has enormous
fire power. I can imagine a military force taking fire from a house
is suburbia and just leveling the entrie block or development.
