Software Evaluation

All,

I'm a long time list member and a classical guitar aficionado. I also have
an interest in computers, in both software and hardware. I have formal
training in computer programming and have worked professionally as a
business programmer and database programmer.

I've developed a software program which, among other things, enables one to
catalog one's music, videos and written material. I am using it to catalog
my classical guitar (CG) materials, such as CDs, LPs, cassette tapes, VCRs,
music books, sheet music and so on. It can also be used to catalog things
other than CG related, but for now I'm focusing on CG. Once items are
cataloged they can be searched, so, for instance, all versions of RdlA could
be quickly located, listing performer, transcriber, media, when recorded,
etc. I've designed the program with flexibility of sorting and searching in
mind.

In addition to cataloging one's items, there's a feature that allows linking
those items to videos and music on the web as well as on one's local system.
So, for instance, I can have links from my recorded and written versions of
RdlA to performances of RdlA on YouTube, and I can play the performances
with a click of the mouse. It's neat to be able to quickly locate these
performances, then play and compare them without having to search the web or
my hard drives.

There's plenty of space for comments about items. Also, pictures and
scanned images can be attached to items.

I'm wondering if there are some RMCGers who would be interested in taking a
look at this program and offering feedback and perhaps suggestions on other
features they'd find useful, if any. I know there are other programs out
there that perform similar functions, and if you are familiar with any of
them I'd be interested in your comparisons. I've developed and use the
program on WinXP with 512MB RAM, but I've also had it successfully installed
on a WinXP system with 256MB RAM. It will probably run fine on some older
Windows versions, but I haven't tested this myself (yet.) The distribution
zip file is about 3.3MB, and the program requires about 9MB to install.

If you are interested, please email me at ffuller531007@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and
put RMCG in the subject line.

Thanks for your consideration,
--
