Robert, I have given this subject a great deal of thought, and this
is what I have come up with:
I'll think you go through the same thing as any songwriter does, or
anyone who is creative.
If you're like me, you go through this high after creating a
video...and it may last for a few
days or weeks. Suddenly, you find yourself depressed and wonder why?
The thing is, the
high wore off...and it's time to create a new video...or you'll
remain in your depressed state.
The biggest problem is, (if you're like most creative people) you
tend to be a perfectionist,
and say to yourself, you could have done a better job...it's not good
enough, etc etc.
Before you know it, you go through the burnout stage. You've promised
too many people
you'll do this or that for them, and the end result is, the hobby
you've enjoyed for so long
suddenly seems like a duty, and you feel overwhelmed much of the
time. This has been
my experience with writing songs.
Can you relate to any of this Robert?
Jeff
No, Robert doesn't think he was appreciated enough. Why take down work
completed because of this burnout you suggest? He took mine down
because I inquired about his state of mind... and his only recourse
was to remove the video's done for me. His 180 in personality wasn't
only percieved by me but by many.
If he is well, than this is a tantrum.
I do hope it is a tantrum.
It seems to me that he made the videos to *create* a sense of
obligation.
Like you, I never asked him to make one. He just did them, in most
cases he didn't even ask first.
(The exception is the collaboration with me and Dave, which if I
remember right, Dave requested. At the time, I was more than happy to
participate and help bring Dave's vision to life.)
Heck in one of my songs he entirely cut out the middle eight and filled
the instrumental section with a bunch of birds chirping. He didn't ask
me about this first. But I didn't complain, because I believed that his
heart was in the right place.
Last night I blew my stack a little bit at him. I don't feel good about
that, but for weeks he's been dragging you, me, Jeff, and Dave (and
probably some others that don't come to mind right now) through the mud.
*None* of us provoked this. I've overlooked his quirks for years in the
spirit of friendship, and he responds by concocting his little imaginary
battles.
I don't even want to speculate as to what the origin of it all is, but I
do know that as Jimi said, "loneliness is such a drag" because I've
experienced it myself, and it might be part of what's ailing Robert.- Hide quoted text -
I'm so sick about reading about Allabest and his video vengeance tghat
I'm going to say what no one else has, much to their credit. Those
videos were the visual requivalent of Cheez Wiz.
Sorry, but you all know it's true. And If he would have not repeatedly
shared his vituperation over the lack of pereceived appreciation with
the world, I would have kept my honest opinion to myself.
