Who knows? One revolution in Iran (prompted and supported by the CIA)
swept the Shah and his goons into power, the next gave us a theocratic
dictatorship. The record isn't all that great it seems. But as for us
dealing with the results: we've got no choice, unless the "mad radio
tubes" get their way and we break out the "cudgels of forced democracy."
That would be a holy disaster as bad as the holy tyranny. As we agree:
the fact that the riots are going on NOW is gratifying, but they (like
similar popular rebellions in Hungary of many years ago) may turn out to
have been the high point of social change for a good many years to come.
It's not nothing of course
Let's drop the Big One and see what happens.
At least it would knock out their nuclear program.- Hide quoted text -

But you're forgetting about the innocent lives...no?

Let me tell you (I hear a lot of this "drop the Bomb" bullshit at work):
most people seemingly have no idea what happens when you drop a hydrogen
bomb, where the wind blows, where the glowing sand and debris end up,
and how many generations are crippled, not even to mention how the U.S.
would instantly become an international pariah, bereft of allies, its
economy crushed by universal revulsion, its political reach amputated at
the shoulder, and maybe for good. But hell yeah, let's vaporize'em, and
figure the costs out later. 'Cus that's how the Big Boys roll!

dmh

I would feel bad if any other country had to lose its nuclear
virginity over the Middle East. Let the United States handle it; we've
got the experience, and everyone knows we only want to do the right
thing.

When you need to dropnuclear weapons on an enemy, rely on the name you
can trust!
