Lennon told John Green that he was trying to learn Japanese (from
Berlitz courses, IIRC) so that he would know what Ono and the servants
were saying behind his back.

He also thought his tutor was cute.

Here is one of the JL/YO clips I have up:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfCBFhB_RQs

Go to about 4:44. If you have time for more context, going to 3:59
will give it to you.

Dick Cavett comes out with a Japanese sentence directly to Yoko. Her
"Ah" reaction is stronger than her usual soft-spoken English-speaking
public personality even though Cavett's Japanese isn't that good
according to the Japanese-speakers who have watched the clip. Lennon
seems to get competitive and instead of letting her answer, deftly
equalizes things by speaking German.

I'm just saying... the dynamics are right there for anyone to see. His
main strength is his ability with words, sound, language. This is a
guy who would have to attempt to learn Japanese.

It's not an uncommon impulse. Adults learn to mute their natural
reaction, but little kids will still get openly angry when their
friends are speaking another language and leaving them out of the
conversation.

Thank you. It seems like John was very enthusiastic when talking
about what it was like to be an intercultural couple.
