Re: That photo of John & Yoko...

Yeah, keep up with the dentist. I used to have no cavities at all
until I stopped going to the dentist for a 3-year stretch in my 20s.
Mistake.

Oh, I long ago passed the point of 'keeping up'. You don't have to tell me
about what happens when you don't take care of your mouth -- they should use
photos of me on posters to scare children into brushing. I never brushed
right as a kid, and my teeth passed the point of no return in terms of decay
probably nearly a decade ago. I've been ashamed to open my mouth in public
since before high school, because it's so bad.

I'm not exaggerating for effect here. I'm not going in tomorrow to get some
cavity filled, or some plaque scraped, or a filling put in. I'm going in to
have 10 or so teeth completely removed -- *another* 10, on my left side,
after having already had everything on the right side removed a few weeks
ago. Then I'll have a third appointment to remove the remaining 6 top front
teeth. A month or two from now, the only teeth in my mouth that will
actually still be real and not dentures are the 6 front ones on the bottom.
Those are the only ones that aren't too decayed to keep. Twenty-six of my 32
adult teeth are (or were) so completely rotten and discoloured and misshapen
that nothing can be done except to pull them and get dentures.

I suppose it's a sad thing to have to get false teeth at the age of 26, but
right now I'm just so relieved to finally be getting rid of these things
that I'm nothing but pleased.
