You are dead wrong.  They said it on May 19, 1967 in an interview
given at a launch party for Sgt. Pepper.  The exact quote was that the
cover contained people "they like and admire."

Here's the link to prove it:

Scroll down a ways until you come to the part where they discuss the
cover.  I take no pleasure in proving you wrong, though it was very
easy to do, because I don't want to believe that John Lennon liked and
admired Adolph Hitler.  But either he's a liar....or he liked and
admired the worst criminal in world history.  Take your pick.

...or Lennon is being very sarcastic. Which was in his character.

Sarcastic??  Huh??  Sounds like you'll believe anything rather than
acknowledge John's apparent affection for Hitler.- Hide quoted text -

When John was on his peace campaign in 1968 and/or 1969, he mentioned
Hitler a number of times as an evil man. I recall one quote where he
said something like we all have a bit of Hitler and a bit of Jesus
inside of us. John and Yoko gave an interview in the Netherlands
where they talked about how evil Hitler was.
