In another discussion thread, someone who posts under the name
"Poisoned Rose" angrily tried to rationalize Yoko's recent fashion
statements. Some film footage of her...at age 75...was included in
an
updated re-broadcast of "The Real Yoko Ono" that showed her in a
leather miniskirt and black dominatrix boots, along with various
fashion accessories reminiscent of the 1960's youth culture.

I am never down with this kind of thinking about
anyone....I think
that no matter what age anybody is,
they are under no obligation to give in to being old.
They should
dress and act ANY WAY THEY WANT TO,
if they feel and think of themselves as youthful it is
wonderful,
everybody should continue trying to enjoy
life as best they can and as much as they want, can
continue making art or performing as long as it
gives them pleasure.....

In a way, I agree with you. But I also think all people,
young and old, should act with self respect. That is where I > draw the

Maybe, but I have become wary of phrases like "acting with self
respect" (or, very commonly, "being mature"), really representing a
measure of the extent to which the person in question conforms to
someone else's expectations of how they should live their life. So
I'm not really on board with that either.

Your point is well taken. Reasonable people can certainly differ on
the question of what it means to "act with self respect."

< I'm not saying that elderly people must act old. However, I'm just
rendering an opinion that I am often not thrilled to see a young woman
dressed like a street walker, shaking her booty on a stage to sell
something. It's bad enough when she is 18 or 20. It's even worse
when she's 75. >

In other words, you think a lack of "self respect" is demonstrated by a
woman not doing what you think she should be doing.

< Many feminists will complain that women are portrayed as sexual
objects in film, commercials, on TV, etc. I think that is a valid
point. >

It's also completely irrelevant.
