BlackMonk never did any such thing. The post to which F Parella
refers was
an ironic joke.
You keep parroting that line, but since when is the sentence "Slash
your wrists" an ironic joke? BM's comment - it was in the "Oh, it
is so hip thread," and it was directed to Dale Houstman - does not
read like a joke. And the participants in that thread did not
interpret it as a joke. Some of them even start to comment on
Blackmonk's penchant for meltdowns. The comment was not, contrary
to Sean's revisionist BS, a joke.

Okay, maybe not a 'joke' per se, but certainly not a literal
suggestion of suicide. I'm not defending his saying it. I'm merely
pointing out that you have brazenly and systematically distorted the
nature of what he said repeatedly.

Interested parties should Google up the "Oh, it is SO hip" thread and
view Black Monk's comment (made to Dale Houstman) and judge for
themselves the alleged jocularity and irony of the comment.

Your idea that BM's comment was an ironic joke is obvious BS. What
sort of person, in the midst of a tense exchange, decides, "Hey, this
discussion needs some levity. So I think I'll tell my interlocutor to
slash his wrists"? Only a nut would think like that. You're making
excuses for BM, Sean - but your excuse shows BM in as bad a light as
does the reality - which is that he was having one of his periodic
hysterical meltdowns.

OK, so I went back and read the thread in question. Not just
BlackMonk's statement, but the whole thing. Context, you know?

"Tense exchange" is an appropriate characterization. Tense on all
sides. But in the context of the ongoing discussion, the interpretation
that the "slash your wrists" comment was intended to be taken literally
is silly.

Jeez, the thread in question is five years old! If you've got to go
back five years in a futile effort to try to score a few points, I think
it's sad.

But then again, taking someone's quotation from years ago out of context
seems to be par for the course here.

Out of context? I think not. I've specifically named the thread and
the post in which BM's foul comment was made - encouraging interested
parties to take in the context. And in *any* context, "slash your
wrists" is a despicable thing to say to someone - especially if you're
given to preaching a religious text which specifically forbids
suicide.

You all *know* BM was out of line. You're embarrassed by it, so you
trot out these phony routines: "It was just a joke," "It was just
irony," "it was all humor," "you're taking it out of context." You're
trying desperately to excuse BM's bad behavior. But in any context,
his behavior was bad. Not to mention nut-worthy.
