To help a freak like Michael Jackson pay off his mountain of
debts. Why?
Huh? I don't even understand what that's supposed to mean, but it
sounds like something you dreamed up.
I think you're taking this whole thing way too seriously. It was a
business venture that took much care to be respectful of the original
art and artists. It made some money for all concerned, it entertained
some people, and best of all, it took nothing away from the original
art. That's all still there for you to enjoy.
Correct me if I am wrong, but Michael Jackson once owned the
copyrights to the entire Fabs catalog and had to surrender those
rights to a bank to pay of millions in debt he owes.
That piece of *** film Across the Universe was produced as a vehicle
to sell a soundtrack and recoup some debt. I'm glad the film tanked.
If LOVE had truly offered "respect" and "care' for the original works
it would not have adopted this trendy and banal computer age gimmick
to present them.
Why do you come across so bitter about this? The LOVE music was
George's idea and Paul and Ringo liked what came of it (and Yoko
approved too). The BBC did a documentary about it last year and it
was clear there was a lot of respect for the original material and a
lot of care was put into the final work. I have never heard anyone
bring up Jackson's name in relation to this project.
FWIW I loved the album, it did make me pay attention to the music in a
way I hadn't for some time. Familiarity had dulled the senses. I
still enjoy picking it to pieces - or just listening to it for what it
is. The only irritation to me is that some songs are cut short
compared to the (familiar) original recordings, but then I can always
fetch those and play them too.
The Beatles' catalogue is unlike any other in the way that many fans
are interested in every little detail, even of the stuff that wasn't
officially released - so yes, I'm sure someone would pay money to hear
Paul belch, though most of us have a little more sense than that.
