Dear Friends,
We are putting all our Tabla accompaniment / practice tracks for
digital download in the popular MP3 format. They have been converted
using 128K sampling and are 15 minutes long. File size is around 14
megs each. 10 popular talas of Tintal (16 beats), Dadra (6 beats),
Keharwa (8 beats), Rupak (7 beats), Jhaptal (10 beats), Ektal (12
beats), Jhumra (14 beats), Deepchandi (14 beats), Dhamar (14 beats),
and Jaltital (16 beats) are featured in slow, medium and fast tempos.
More talas and tempos are being recorded presently for future MP3
downloads..
Our institute was the first to initiate the availability of such
tracks back in the 80s. They were originally released on Cassette then
on CD and now they have found a home as MP3s. The great news is that
what started as an expensive collection of practice tracks with the
original 32 cassette series selling for more than $240, these 32 MP3
tracks are now available for only $1.99 each.
We have also initiated a secure Paypal gateway for payment.
We realize that in the past few years many rhythm boxes have started
taking up the slack for providing a similar practicing function. But,
these boxes do not do justice to live playing. Our tracks have been
played live by Pandit Ashwin Batish, son of Pandit Shiv Dayal Batish,
the very
same artist that played the Veena in the Beatles movie "Help."
We have used very high quality microphones that sound fat and warm to
the ear. This makes jamming with them a joy. They are recorded in the
key of C and played using a metronome for accuracy of time. So, they
are extremely steady in tempo.
The 10 CD set sells for around $169.00 at Amazon.com and even though
we have these on sale presently in our own catalog for less, we
believe the MP3 offer a newer "low cost" venue for the "on-the-
go" generation of students that need to carry their collection with
them on their laptops or iPods.
