Re: Obama Takes Delegate lead

Besides it making boring theater, Obama has stated there's really not
that much difference between his policy and Hillary's.

And I believe there's a lot of truth to that. The policy differences
between the two of them are much less than, for example, the differences
among the Republican candidates. Sure, Obama came out against the war
long before Hillary did, but right now the important thing is what they
*will* do, rather than what was said years ago. And there, I honestly
think they don't differ that much.

So to me it really comes down to more of a character issue and an
electability issue. It's not premature to ask, "who has the best chance
against McCain". Does Clinton's potential nomination bring in so much
old baggage that it hurts the party's chances? The spectre of Bill
Clinton as the power behind the throne, whether valid or not, plants
real doubts in some people's minds.

Obama's not being probed deeply on policy matters essentially because of
the lack of differences between the two candidates. Believe me, he will
come general election time if he wins the nomination. Besides, he's
outlined things pretty thoroughly (and to my satisfaction, at least) in
numerous position papers.

I did my thing today (Maryland primary), and for the first time in many
years the race was still competitive by the time it got here, and there
was a candidate with a decent chance at the nomination who I could
proudly support.

Will I vote for Clinton in the general election if she wins the
nomination? Sure, because to me she's head and shoulders over the
presumed alternative. But I'm still rooting for Barack, and I hope he
gets the nomination.

Others may differ of course, and I don't mean for what I'm saying to
belittle their views.
