Re: Can anyone in RMB help me find...

Personally, the problem I see with RMBM (and it may be unique to me)
is the "prior censorship" thing. I would prefer a forum in which
certain ground rules are established, people post and their posts
show up immediately, and people who violate the rules are bounced.
However, such a format may be incompatible with usenet, and the prior
filtration may be the only workable compromise.

Considering that the moderators screen only for commercial
announcements and spam, libel or personal attacks, and off-topic
material, I'm not sure how this constitutes censorship. What's being
"censored", exactly?

True, the immediacy of instant posts are gone, and I admit that's what
I like about rmb too. But I belong to several moderated newsgroups and
mail lists, all of which have delayed schedules in posting material.
Some are once a day, some several times a week. I guess it boils down
to what suits you best.

Frankly, I don't have the patience to wait for the posts to show up.

That I understand, though it's hard for moderators to be on-call
twenty four hours a day. I don't expect the same kind of turn-around
in the moderated groups I read, but that's just me.

I think it's just fine the way it is. If people wanted, rmbm could be
used for discussions without insults, but that's not what most of online
banter is now. Whether folks admit it or not, for most there's an
enjoyment of seeing someone get bashed, whether you're participating or
not. The problem is, behind it all, a major reason (and for some,
clearly not "the" major reason) we're all here is love of the Beatles
and a desire to learn more about them and, yes, to share our knowledge
and opinions.

If our *only* purpose were to learn, and share our knowledge and
opinions, then rmbm would suit that need perfectly. But the other
purpose here --- and the one that keeps us here vs rmbm --- is to
develop and demonstrate relationships between posters. Yes, you can do
that on rmbm, too, but in a less immediate manner.

I will say this after a "long" hiatus, this place seems "better" to me
now than in other times of its history.
