Where the mp3 really shows its weakness is through a sound system in a
good car. Now cars are coming with hard drives for their sound systems.
People who load these hard drives with mp3s instead of wave files are
really going to notice the difference. Now, it's true that one can
download mp3 directly into these hard drives, so maybe the popularity of
compressed files will remain strong. But one day, we will be able to
download wave files.
The real secret of why mp3s seem to sound so good is that you can get
them for free.
With my Zune MP3 player that holds up to 7,500 songs..I'm not about to
use my CD player that holds only one disc, and take the chance I might
get food on the
CD. I honestly can't hear the difference in the sound quality.
lack of fidelity. I burn all mp3's at 320kbps which makes less fit on
a cd but makes them much more listenable. The problem is that many
mp3's are TOO compressed. If everyone burned at 320kbps then there
wouldn't be so many debates about the quality issue.
