1) what percentage of the band's entire catalog those great albums

No I dont. All bands have a peak era last 7-10 years. After that all
of them are crap.
A wholly discardable comment. You're just talking out of your ass,
and trying to be irritating.
2) the differences in quality between albums which reach that
minimum level of greatness -- in other words, your yardstick says a
band with two "A+" albums is no better than a band with two "A"
albums
I never said that. I dont really care for A albums at all. I only go
for A+ albums.
So, once again, you demonstrate the illogic of your yardstick. So,
in other words, if a band has one "A+" album and nine "C-" albums,
That is highly unlikely.
you're going to rate that band higher than another band which has 10
"A" albums.
One of those A might be very close to A+ and I will give that band a
concession. I can hardly think of any band which has 10 A albums. So
again this is a very unlikely phenomenon.
I would rate Sex Pistols over Uriah Heep. Because Sex Pistols have an A
+ album and 0 other albums. And Uriah Heep (based on what I have
heard) have no A+ albums and hardly any A albums.
