Anyone else here play mandolin apart from me?
I play folk-style, i.e. picking tunes, not chording. I'm not
particularly familiar with other styles, but to me, Sir Paul sounds
like he's learned a few chords and is using the mandolin like a
ukulele with steel strings. Can anyone tell how he has it tuned? Not
having heard the whole album, is the mandolin used elsewhere? Any
ideas on the make or style of the instrument he's using?
I think I heard him say somewhere that he's only had the mandolin a
short while. I wonder how far (and in what direction) he'll take it.
I play Celtic, Bluegrass but mainly SWING!!!!!
Mandolin is such a swingy little instrument and it's so easy to get
those flatted 5 and 7 notes in. YOu can walk down from a Gm7 to a D7
in a flash.
Most guitar players who take up mandolin play the mando like a guitar.
Paul is doing the same thing.
Mando is much more a rythym instrument than a lot of folks give it
credit for.
