Good way of putting it, Dan. I go back and forth between my favorites.
Same here. I go back and forth between Revolver and Rubber Soul.
Pepper? A couple of masterpieces but also several mediocre ones. On Revolver & RS, everything's great.
What's mediocre on Pepper? I can't even fathom anything less then superb.
Well - if you can't fathom it, there's no earthly reason for anyone to go into detail is there?
Pepper is superb, but some of the songs are less than songs, being more along the lines of intriguing fragments; i.e. "Fixing A Hole." Lennon's "Good Morhing Good Morning" isn't quite a good song imho, and "Lovely Rita" is a fun trifle. So there is room for disagreement about its qualities as a musical event, although its cultural impact cannot be overestimated. And - for my money - "Within You Without You" is one of the longest and dullest pieces of supposed pop music ever allowed to make its way onto an album. Revolver has a less "pompous" sound to it, with more superior songs and a generally "cleaner" tone about it. So, I'd rank it among their very best, along with "Hard Day's Night."

No offense but opinions are like....
Come on: this ENTIRE thread is about opinions! I'm not supposed to have one because it might be different than yours?

Now we can agree. No, You're right but I think you're a bit harsh on Pepper. Within you has such a great set of lyrics and the music...
It's just hard to hear that kind of criticism o when it brings back the memories when it was first running through my head. My memory was when I was in the military and in the field. We were putting up camaflage over everything. Nasty dirty work. Any way as I worked I sang aloud, "It's getting better all the time..." and immediately the other guy and friend of mine sang back the Lennon part "It can't get no worse.." We just started laughing and rolling when an offider came up and just looked at us and asked us what we were smoking that could make us so happy when we should be so unhappy. We were doing alot of acid then that helped the laughter and the sound track at the time was all Pepper.
But gettiing back, Of course you do.
