For me...I wil never tire of marvelling at the reality of the tornado scenes, and now knowing how they did it making it even more fascinating. No CGI, this.
I ABSOLUTELY agree... that is one of those parts that essential to this film... it's called CRAFT... I'm not anti-tech, but show me CRAFT.....
In the anscence of any sort of CGI abilities the movies were both limited by this and blessed by this, because it force mechanical creativity. Sure, a lot of older movies look hokey today, it was the best they could do.
But to recreate such a powerful tornadic image with muslin on a soundstage that still has the realistic look to terrify...wel, that alone was a major accomplishment for that picture.
***, 1939, what a YEAR for movies...perhaps the best ever?
Nope. That was 1974. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the Last House On The Left. Great year for the outdoor Drive-Ins anyway. Of Course, I never saw those movies past the opening credits. Come to think of it, they are the sole reason I have no money today. Child Support left me eating baloney sandwiches and that in the words of the Coal Miner's Daughter just left me even more horny.
