They gave the Sinai back TWICE (1956 and 1979).  The only gave Gaza
back once, because the Egyptians refused to take it (and got a rain of
rockets and death threats from Hamas back in return).

Only because they keep the Gazans in a huge prison and keep a blockade,
even medical supplies from them.  Come on... you can't seriously suggest
that they have "given Gaza back".



They gave the Dome of the Rock and El Aqsa mosque back.

The Israelis live in THIS century, and have the ability to
compromise.  The current Palestinian leadership, expecially Hamas,
does not.  There are signs that the Fatah leadership in the West Bank,
finally will.  See Tom Friedman's recent columns.

The Isrealis reneged on the Oslo agreement, so in response, the people
elected radicals.  That's how it goes.  If Israel would withdraw the
settlers, which they would have to do anyway to achieve peace, then
they've lost nothing.  They don't give the land back until a peace
agreement is reached, which WILL include the elected leadership of Gaza
agreeing to recognize Israel.  Simple.

BECAUSE they reneged on withdrawing the settlers before, NO ONE will
trust them to do so again as a condition for peace.  It ain't gonna
happen.  If Israel wants peace, they need to start the withdrawal.  When
the land is empty, then an agreement can be struck.

You talk of compromise, but isn't that what got the Native Americans
consigned to reservations?

 Israel stole the land which had been
designated for the Palestinians after taking much of their land for
Israel.

Israel ACCEPTED the 1948 partition. The Arabs REJECTED it and
attacked. The result was the the 1948 ceasefire lines.

 They have already compromised by accepting Israel's right to
exist... don't ever forget that.
